Christmas has lost its value. In today's world, the meaning of Christ and goodwill towards menhas been replace by remote-controlled cars and peeing dolls. What was once Christmas magic is now Sears or Wal-Mart magic. And what's worse, it's promoting a culture of mass consumption, and that's not just a lot of people consuming at one time, that's a lot of people consuming a lot of things at one time. Santa is now Donald Trump and his elves are 12 year old laborers that are paid starvation wages...
Spreading good cheer? Goodwill towards men? I think not. I wonder how many people will be murdered, raped, or killed on Christmas day in Iraq alone this year? There were a few last Christmas, and that's not including every other country on the earth that "celebrates" Christmas. Goodwill is just a mask put on Christmas to cover the connection between consumption and brutality.
As for celebrating Christ's birth, that's all hooey anyway! But if you wanna get real technical, I thought Jesus was born in the Fall sometime, and wasn't December 25th a Pagan holiday? I think that's where the tree comes from, celebrating eternal life, or something...
Now, let's get down to the big issue, the children! When I see Canadian Tire commercials before Halloween, I'm left wondering: "Where did we go wrong?" Before kids even begin to think about the "real" meaning behind Christmas, their minds turn to toys, and all that other junk they don't need, months before the Christmas season even starts those crappy jingles on the radio.
So, as your factories are shipped overseas, your resources deplete, and we all choke and die on sulfurous smog, I probably wont have time to tell you this, so I'll say it now: "I TOLD YOU SO!"

"Load your gun"
"I can't, threw away my last clip for the lighter. Cause, y'know, I thought since I had the gun I didn't need the bullets."
Yule was the feast of light. The christmastree played an important role in midwinterfestivals. They where the main symbol, because the are evergreen and didn't 'die' like the other plants during that season. They were the symbol of eternal life and the sign of the beginning of new life (springtime is coming).
Ancient European tribes hung branches of evergreens above their doors, to invite wandering spirits inside, so they can seek shelter. People were hoping that the spirits would give them prosperity and health in reward. The wandering spirits who would give prosperity and health are now the angels who will bring the light ( hope and warmth)
The Roman did the same, but the also gave branches evergreens to friends as presents. For the druids evergreen were a symbol of life and therefor sacred (Ygdrassil = tree of life is the holy tree).
Usually people hung apples in the tree (symbol of wisedom and the most sacred fruit of them all), later on we dressed our tree with apple shaped figurines.
(as a teacher in history and geography I had to tell you this

You dress to impress
the make-up will hide who you are
you dress to impress
the lies will hide what you want to be
you dress to impress
so you will be just a shadow
